Tour Descriptions

Sanctuary Tours

1)  Self-Guided tours are for all ages and are recommended for those who have visited and participated in a staff-guided tour previously. Sanctuary staff will be on site to chaperone your visit, answer questions, and introduce you to the animals.  This tour is "self-guided", allowing you to explore at your leisure and encounter staff working throughout the compound.  All visitors will be given a brief verbal orientation to sanctuary rules and expectations before entering the compound, and will be required to adhere to said rules at all times.  Check the interactive calendar to see if this tour is being offered the day you wish to visit.

2)  Staff-Guided tours are for all ages and are recommended for all first-time visitors.  Staff-guided tours are led by a knowledgeable member of the sanctuary's staff.  Visitors will be given a brief verbal orientation to sanctuary rules and expectations, then be led through the entire sanctuary, stopping at each animal habitat to hear personal stories and answer questions.  Staff will, in some cases, safely interact with animals through "protected contact" enrichment offering a better opportunity to see some animals that may otherwise be inside dens.  These tours last about 90  minutes. Check the interactive calendar to see if this tour is being offered the day you wish to visit.

Feeding Tours are offered exclusively for ages 10 and up at 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday during the "Summer Season".  (Visitors with children under 10 years of age may opt to attend an 11 a.m. staff-guided tour, which also features the opportunity to see all animal residents, ask questions, and enjoy interactive presentations.)  Led by a senior keeper, visitors will be given a brief verbal orientation before enjoying the opportunity to see the animals receive treats and meals during personal presentations by keepers.  Bring your camera!  Feeding Tours can last up to two hours.  Check the interactive calendar to see if this tour is being offered the day you wish to visit.

Private Tours are available for ages 10 and up by appointment only during the "off-season" between September and June when other tour options are not available, and occasionally by special request.  Private Tours include access "behind the scenes" to see food preparations, keeper service areas, and more, and are especially recommended for college students and adults who wish to engage more in supporting Black Pine's mission. Maximum 20 people per tour.  Subject to availability.  Click here to reserve.

Educational Programs are designed specifically to meet Indiana Academic Standards for schools, home schooled children, and other youth groups.  Click here for program descriptions or to reserve.  If you wish to discuss a specially-designed program to meet your specific needs, call (260) 636-7383.

"Custom" Tours & Programs will be considered on an individual basis to accommodate any groups whose needs are not met by the tours typically offered.  If your group has a unique demographic or need, please call to discuss additional options.  Black Pine aims to offer the flexibility needed to welcome all to visit!  Call (260) 636-7383 for more information.
