Temporary Senior Zookeeper

Black Pine's Board of Directors is now seeking applicants for a temporary, full-time senior zookeeper.  This position will commence August 15, 2008 and continue for a minimum of eight weeks.  Primary duties will be to oversee and carry out animal husbandry for approximately 75 animals including primates, felines, reptiles, birds, and a variety of other mammals.  Work days are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. five days a week, including some weekend days.  Some occasional overtime may also be required.  To apply, mail resume with references to:

Summer Bi-Lingual Intern

Black Pine Animal Park is now seeking applicants for a grant-funded summer internship position.  This position is for a bi-lingual (English/Spanish) Interpreter and Animal Care Intern and will commence on or about May 15 and continue for 12 weeks.  The ideal candidate will be a college-age student hoping to pursue a career in communications, business, interpretation, animal science, recreation and tourism, or hospitality.

Duties will include:

  • Translate park tour guides and animal bio-facts

  • Translate "Good Health & Exotic Animals" educational hand-out

  • Provide translations of all park programs as needed

  • Schedule group tour appointments

  • Greet and orientate visitors upon arrival

  • Lead guided tours through the park providing bio-facts and interpreting exhibits

  • Create interactive opportunities for visitors to see and learn about animals through use of interpretive objects, such as feathers, pelts, eggs, etc.

  • Handle and present small animals for interactive interpretive encounters

  • Help coordinate and assist with conducting special educational camps and activities for children of varying ages

  • Assist with cleaning habitats, making animal diets, and with animal enrichment activities as needed

  • Help maintain an accurate and informative daily report of animal care and behavior
