Field Trips & Tours by Appointment - Quick Reference

 

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, plus weekends in May, September and October, tours are scheduled daily.  No appointment is necessary.  Check tour schedule here.

 

Field trip programs are designed specifically for schools and other youth groups.  Tours by appointment are offered during the "off season" when school is in session and no other tours are already scheduled.  Check tour schedule here before booking an appointment.

Objectives: Students will identify qualities they admire or dislike in animals, then recognize that even "unpopular "animals deserve respect.

Animals featured: Llamas, goats, sheep, large birds, donkeys, miniature horse, fallow deer, potbelly pig. Additional observations may include coati mundi, bobcats, caracal, mountain lion, Bengal tigers, leopards, African lion, and/or black bears.

Wild World of Animals

Indiana's Academic Standards:

Science Standard 4: The Living Environment

Objectives: Students will observe a variety of animals from around the world and learn what they eat, what they need, and how they are designed to survive in nature.

Animals featured: Llamas, goats, sheep, large birds, donkeys, miniature horse, fallow deer, potbelly pig. Sulcata tortoise, boa constrictor and/or ball python.  Additional observations may include coati mundi, bobcats, caracal, mountain lion, Bengal tigers, leopards, African lion, and/or black bears.

Objectives: Students will understand how the actions of humans can affect the status of wild animals and their habitats.

Animals featured:

Bengal tigers, leopards, African lion, caracal, sulcata tortoise

Goats, llamas, black Welsh mountain sheep, rheas, ostrich, emu, potbelly pig, donkeys, miniature horse, fallow deer. 

Additional observations may include mountain lion, coatimundi, bobcats, dromedary camel.

Indiana's Academic Standards:

Science Standard 4

Objectives: Students will witness the similarities and differences between big and small cats, big and small birds, and reptiles.  Through observation they will discover what is required to sustain life among various species.

Animals featured:

Bobcat, caracal; mountain lion, Bengal tiger, leopards and/or African lion; ostrich, emu, and/or rhea; cockatoo, macaw and/or zebra finch; sulcata tortoise, boa constrictor, bearded dragon and/or ball python.  Goats, llamas, black Welsh mountain sheep, rheas, ostrich, emu, potbelly pig, donkeys, miniature horse, fallow deer.

Objectives: Students will understand the difference between “domestic” and “exotic” animals, how humans can affect both wild and captive populations of animals, and what it takes to be a responsible pet owner.

Animals featured:

Approximately 17 species of mammals, including big and small cats, bears, and primates; and ostrich, emu, rhea; snake and/or tortoise.

Private Sanctuary Tours

Private Sanctuary Tours (for ages 10 & up), for groups of less than 20 people.

Objectives: To plant a seed of awareness through intimate observation, interaction, and personal encounters that will encourage responsible pet ownership and conservation of endangered species and natural habitats.

Animals featured:  Behind the scenes!  Over 47 species of mammals, reptiles, birds, and primates, including several endangered species.

Cost: $20.00 per person with a minimum charge of $50 per appointment. Maximum 20 people per tour.  Smaller groups are subject to being combined with other groups for most effective scheduling of staff resources.  No one under age ten permitted on this tour.
