January 2008 Dear Friends, Push for Paws 2008 voluntary contribution campaign emphasizes that "We couldn't do what we do without you!" Our goal is to raise $125,000 to bridge the gap in operating funds that resulted from our unplanned and unbudgeted move in 2006 and ongoing construction required to get back to "square one". This first annual campaign will help keep the doors open and park moving forward during this transition. Future annual campaigns will help bridge any remaining gaps in operating funds and expanded services to animals and people. Two major challenges for 2008 are: covering the increased costs of operating at a larger and improved site while some programs remain on hold during construction; and maintaining three full-time paid employees, two more than were employed during the first eleven years of operation. Our 2008 operating budget is $223,000. We need your help to get through this transition and until program offerings that will sustain us can be fully resumed. Black Pine Animal Park stands to become one of the nation's finest exotic animal sanctuaries offering uniquely entertaining and informative educational programs to people of all ages that encourage responsible pet ownership and the conservation and preservation of animals and their natural habitats. Unrestricted gifts, foundation grants, and corporate contributions have never been more vital. Push for Paws is a strategy that works to provide a larger, long-term community of support for displaced exotic pets and retired performers and a more informed general public who can help curb the growth of the exotic pet trade and damage to wild animal populations.
